I read a book about the vintage Chinese medicine packaging – “Hong Kong Apothecary: A Visual History of Chinese Medicine Packaging”. This book is filled information with lots of pictures of the vintage packaging collected and researched by Simon Go.
Look at these colourful packaging….they are art!! The colours combination, illustration and lines are so well-planned which make the brands stand-out. Though normally each packaging only used 2 or 3 colours in design, they make good use of the colour theory. And many of them are red or yellow which are considered lucky and blessed in Chinese tradition. Well who don’t want to be healed fast?
Red and yellow…primary colours are always eye-catching when put together.
Love these complicated lines. And red and white..yeah it was white I supposed.
Primary colours combination again. Making a powerful impression.
Red and purple, quite matched with the snake-made medicine..though look like poison with these colours LOL
Guess why their faces are like that…? Because they are coughing hahahaaaaaa!
These are like some magic little pills from a witch…! Purple! This is too dreamy and romantic for pills…I love them actually :P
The designer of this was really daring, shocking pink!! For medicine!!
Still can see this in Hong Kong. Packing the Chinese herbs together into a paper. I loved seeing staff doing this when I went to Chinese medicine store when I was a kid…I loved the sound I don’t know why..
